About Barney:

Barney is a large, male Huntaway X, aged 10 years old.

Hi, I’m Barney. I’m a very cuddly 10-year-old huntaway collie lab mix, living in New Plymouth.

I’m affectionately known as ‘Barnacle’, because I stick to you like a limpet!

I live with mum and my best friend Bertie – who you’ll also find on here.

Bertie and I have happily lived together for seven years now.

My greatest passion in life is SWIMMING!

Wherever there’s water – the sea, a pond, river – or just a big puddle – I’ll be in it, sloshing away!

Bertie and I live as pets but, mum says, we both think we’re farm dogs – except, we’re far too lazy for the work part!

Sadly, mum needs to move overseas for one year.

While she’s gone, she wants to find us the BEST of long-term foster homes, where us lovable lads can be adored.

Mum’s heartbroken to leave us but she wants to ensure we stay together and that we’re loved and safe, till she can be with us again.

Mum thinks we’d be best on a lifestyle block or a place with a spacious yard.

Both of us, mum thinks, would find free ranging chickens too tempting to chase and we couldn’t live with cats or possums either.

People though, that’s another story.

I LOVE spending time with them. I even do high fives!

I’m happy tootling along, wherever my human is. I’ll stick to you like glue, really.

I’m a very kind and obedient boy, that loves going for walks. I’m exceptional on leash!

I adore meeting children and little dogs along the way. I’m so gentle with them both.

And when new people visit my home, I greet them with a waggy tail. I’m not territorial at all.

First thing in the morning though, I have a bit of a one track mind!

Once I’ve said good morning to Bertie – we sleep in separate indoor spaces, you see – I’m all about the food. I need to remind mum it’s breakfast time.

I’m not a picky eater. I LOVE meat but I’m not a huge fan of veggies these days!

Then, I trot round the paddock and check all the fencing – making sure everything’s in order and up to standard.

Mum says, when I’m wanting attention, or to take a walk, I’ll stare at her with “laser eyes” and try and communicate telepathically.

Then I’ll get up and walk over to her and look up, with that puppy dog face, as if to say, “Are you SURE you won’t go yet?”

But, when we’re hanging round home, I always find plenty to amuse myself.

I LOVE squeaky toys. In fact, I have a tiny little hot dog squeaker mum says I can bring with me to my foster home.

I’ve taken it round everywhere for months now!

Mum wanted me to let you know that I’m in excellent health, neutered, micro-chipped and up to date with my vaccinations.

So, if you feel you can offer Bertie and I a loving and safe place while our mum’s away, please send an email, explaining a little about yourself and your home.
