Luke is a lovely young male huntaway/heading dog who is looking for a great family to call his own. We think Luke is around 18 months old. He is castrated, microchipped, and up to date with vaccinations, flea and worm treatments.

Luke is a great dog, he loves other dogs and would really like to find a home with another active, playful big dog to keep him company. He does play quite rough, being a teenage boy, so would be best suited to a young dog who can cope with his enthusiasm! Luke is currently being fostered with lots of other dogs, and cats who are brave and don’t run. He has shown no interest in the cats at all, but we are unsure what he would be like with scaredy cats. Luke has not met children or stock while with us, so we would prefer a home without children, or with teenagers, just due to his bouncy personality.

We don’t know much about Luke’s past, but think it is safe to say he wasn’t an inside pet dog, and may have spent a good amount of time being stuck in a kennel. He hates to be confined to a crate, and will panic and push to escape. He is quite comfortable being tied up for short periods if need be (while you pop to town or whatever). He does not jump fences at his foster home, and doesn’t bark unless you crate him. A well fenced back yard would be best for Luke for now rather than a full time inside dog, as he is still learning about toilet training and is quite busy inside. He does like to come inside for family time. He may be suitable for a lifestyle block too if his new owners are comfortable in introducing him to stock. Luke would love a home where someone is home a fair bit, and does need to be active. So trips to the river, beach or park would really make his day. If he had another dog to play with he would be happier being left while his owners are at work.

Luke loves people and is a bit of an attention seeker-he loves to sneak a pat from you by pushing his nose into your hand! He will also follow his people everywhere if he is able to. He’s fine in the car. He’s picked up basic commands really quickly and is obsessed with food (was pretty lean when he arrived). However he has shown no aggression at all with his food.

This boy will make a wonderful addition to an active family who can continue his training and show him how cool pet life can be.
