About Buddy:

Buddy is a large, male Huntaway, aged 6 years old.

Description:

Buddy is a large huntaway who barks more like a Jack Russell. Sorry about that.
He is a working dog who isn’t amazing, but isn’t totally awful either. He has been used on our dairy and beef farm with varying success since we obtained him as a “chattel” when we bought the farm….

However, he is getting more intolerant of our other dogs (we have 5 more including a puppy) and is getting a bit too aggressive with them. Because of his competitive nature, he can be growly when other dogs are around and you are patting him etc – so preferably would go to a home with children that are older (or none). We have young kids and while previously I would have trusted him over just about any of our other dogs, I no longer feel that is the case.

Is Buddy used to children? Yes.
Is Buddy used to cats? Don’t know.
Is Buddy toilet-trained? Don’t know.
Is Buddy used to stock? Yes.
Is Buddy used to chickens? No.
How well does Buddy get on with other dogs? OK.
Buddy lives in Ruawai, .
A bit about Buddy’s personality:

Buddy is full of energy – he will run everywhere and having grown up on this farm, thinks he knows where you are going before you go there…so often goes in the wrong direction. I think this would be alleviated somewhere else. He also sometimes gets sore feet because of the road running, but again, that will alleviate being somewhere else.

He is a real human smooch, but doesn’t like our other dogs so much, so can get stand offish quickly if others come around. I think he would be better in a one or two dog home.

Buddys pros:

He is a smooch
He tries hard to work
He has a good guard dog bark (nice deep huntaway woof)
He pushes cattle pretty well

Buddys cons:

He trail barks with a not so delightful yap, EVERYWHERE
He is not the friendliest with other dogs and because of this I’m careful with the kids with him
He isn’t the brightest…
