About Zeus:

Zeus is a large, male Huntaway X, aged 8 years old.

Description:

Zeus is an absolute sweetheart of a companion, goofball with many quirks. He makes you believe in “Dog, a man’s best friend”.

Unfortunately I’m having to rehome Zeus as I am unable to care for him due to housing and financial difficulties. If I could care for him, I would; I’ve just been in and out of poor living situations as small as a single bedroom for both Zeus and I which wasn’t fair on him having no space to run around in. I just want my boy to find a loving, caring and accepting home.

Zeus is a goofy but lovely boy overall. I’ll mention all his goods in the personality part of this. But he does have some areas of concern-

When Zeus was in his younger years, he had been attacked by 2 older dogs on 2 separate occasions which left him having a present day defensiveness towards other big dogs. Though in saying that, it’s quite random and unpredictable as he’s also randomly been friendly with other dogs out and about for example at a beach or on a hike trail and other times not so much. He definitely can interact with other dogs just depends how you handle it and where he’s situated. He tends to be territorial of his home/land so isn’t very welcoming of other dogs but if slowly introduced can learn.

He is definitely a speaker, he loves to chat which means he barks a fair amount but he also can be quiet and calm.
Zeus doesn’t do well with any loud noises such as car backfires, shots, heavy rain, thunder, fireworks etc. What I normally would do is play music loud to help drown out the sound which works sometimes depending on how bad the weather is or how long the fireworks are going on for.
He also has really bad separation anxiety, he feels the need to have someone with him all the time in order to feel safe and secure.
He’s a really smart boy, he notices how you open and close windows and doors and maybe learn to do it himself too- an escape artist if he’s left alone.

Currently, from the recent placement, he’s developed a new habit of stress chewing. From what I’ve heard it’s bad but I haven’t seen it yet myself first hand.

I’m starting to think retraining/training would be a good idea to help with managing some if not all these habits.

I feel he just needs a home where someone has the time and energy for him. Where he can feel secure, calm and happy.

A bit about Zeus’s personality:

Zeus is an absolute goofball. He loves his pats, belly rubs and cuddles and all the more. He’s a super hyper boy and loves play time. He loves his balls, to play fetch and can run like the wind. He specifically loves soccer balls and of course his “chuck it” ball. He loves his car rides and loves to pop his head out the window and feel the breeze in his fur and face. He loves music specially UB40’s Kingston Town. He loves his hikes and beach days. He loves the water expect for bath time. He’s cheeky and will test you and try to push your boundaries but if you can have two tones- one being the happy tone you talk to him in and then the firm, serious tone, that would help him understand what’s okay and what not okay. He’s a very smart boy, quick to learn new things; he knows all of the following commands:
• Sit
• Down
• Hand Shake
• Other Hand
• Roll Over (he needs to feel like he’s got lots of space to do it, otherwise he won’t)
• Stay
• Enough!
• No!
• Enough, you play (said for when he keeps pushing you and you’ve had enough so you can say this and he will take his toy/ball and go sit with it or play with it on his own)
• Come
• Back (he back up if you repeat back back back)
• Go around (if he loops his leash somewhere like a pole or something, he knows how to undo it)
• Up (tap your chest or where you want him to go up on)
• Jump
• Bring it here (for when at the park and you want him to bring the ball to you)
• Drop
• Go far (for him to run his distance)
• Here I come (I use to say this when he was a pup to chase him around the house and he would grab his toy or ball and run so he understands I’m playing with him)
• Wanna go for a walk (if you say walk- he knows, so you better take him)
• Get! (Being told off)
• Go inside

He has such main character energy, it’s a big personality. Not everyone’s cup of tea but for sure a special cup of tea.
