If you’re looking for a calm, gentle companion who asks for very little and gives plenty in return, then Fern might just be your perfect match.

This lovely Beardie x Huntaway girl is 10 years young, but don’t let her age fool you. Fern is fit, healthy, and still enjoys her two daily adventures with her foster mates, exploring the local paddocks and forestry block. And if a rabbit happens to appear, she’ll happily remind everyone that she’s still got plenty of spark left!

Between outings, Fern is content to wander the property, soak up the sunshine, or enjoy a peaceful snooze. Since coming into foster, she has never attempted to escape and happily relaxes while her foster carer works from home.

Fern has excellent manners and is fully toilet trained. After spending her life as a working farm dog, she is now discovering the comforts of indoor life and thoroughly enjoys curling up on a cosy bed at night.
She gets along beautifully with cats, chickens, stock, other dogs, and has lived with older children. Fern is currently fostered alongside five other dogs and has had no issues at all with them or the neighbouring dogs. As you’d expect from a seasoned working girl, her recall is fantastic, she’s a great traveller, and she walks nicely on a lead, despite much of this being quite new to her.

Fern isn’t a dog who demands attention, but she enjoys affection when it’s offered. She can be nervous around strangers initially, becomes anxious in unfamiliar environments, and isn’t a fan of loud noises. Having spent her life in rural surroundings, town life would likely be overwhelming for her.

For that reason, Fern is looking for a quiet rural home where she can continue to enjoy a peaceful lifestyle. She’d love a canine companion to spend her days with and would benefit from someone being around for much of the day while she settles in. Interestingly, Fern seems particularly drawn to men and tends to bond with them quite quickly.

Fern has given her working years to others. Now it’s her turn to enjoy retirement with a family who will appreciate the sweet, loyal, gentle soul she is.

Adoption fee: $350 (includes spey, vaccination, microchip, flea/worm treatment, and registration). Vet reference and property inspection required.
