About Dixie:

Dixie is a medium-sized, female Huntaway X, aged 8 years old.

Description:

Hi, I’m Dixie. I’m an 8-year-old huntaway beardie mix, living in Waiuku.

I live with my dad, and my best friend, Coco, who you’ll also find here.

Sadly, a marriage breakup meant we’ve had to leave our 6-acre section and move, with our dad, to a much smaller place.

I’m a very smart girl and I love being spoken to.

I’ll listen intently and look straight into your eyes, cocking my head from side to side.

Sometimes I’ll even try and talk back!

My dad says I’m just a quiet, gentle-natured sweetheart.

It’s true. I’m ultra-affectionate. I adore the children in my family!

I love nothing more than joining them in a game of fetch – it’s my FAVOURITE!

Coco’s the more energetic one of us. When I’m chasing the ball, she’ll be trying to round ME up!

So now, I get special one-on-one time playing my favourite game.

Sadly, the family separation has been a huge change for Coco and me.

Our dad works long hours and we’re on our own a lot during the day.

We get quite lonely without the human company.

The other day my dad sat us down for a chat.

He says he’d like to try and find us a loving pet home, where we can have more human one-on-one time – and plenty of exercise!

He’s hoping he can find us the ideal place together, but we’d be okay in separate homes too.

I’m the more placid of the two of us.

Dad says I’d be fine sharing my home with other doggies.

I’m a friendly girl. When we go to the beach or park, I always do the butt sniff and make great new friends.

In the evenings, once dad’s home, the three of us hang out in the lounge together.

I run and dive onto my side, then walk my legs along and rub my body against the carpet. It always makes dad laugh!

Oh, and I love a good tummy rub from dad too!

He’s not sure how I’d be sharing my home with cats. I’ve never met one before, but I should be fine with some training.

I’m such a great help round home. If humans I don’t know visit, they become a fast friend.

My dad says he, and the family, will be sad to say goodbye, but I know he only wants for my happiness.

He’d like to trial me in my new home, just to make sure I’m the right fit.

He also wanted me to let you know I’m spayed and micro-chipped.

So if you’re looking for a placid gentle soul, that’s a lot of fun to share your days with, I’d love to meet you!
