About Faye:
Faye is a large, female Hunting – Pig Dog, aged 3 years old.
Description:Hi, I’m Faye and I’m 3.
I LIVE for fetch!
If I hear ‘go get it’ I’m off! I’ll search the whole property; find a toy and place it in my owner’s hand.
I live with a 1-year-old baby girl. I bring my toy bone to her; drop it at her feet and wait for her to throw it!
We’re still working on her training.
Life’s great but it wasn’t always this way.
My owner is a vet. She tells me the story of how we met.
Two years ago, a young, emaciated pig dog came to her clinic – it was me!
For two weeks, she says, it was touch and go. She didn’t know if I’d make it, so she took me home on a temporary basis, while I recovered.
She says every time she went to pat me, I would hug the ground. She says I’d been beaten and was scared of my own shadow.
Now a healthy happy 30 kilo pooch – whose busy training the baby – my life before seems a blur!
And my temporary owners, who have cared for me SO well, want to find me the world’s greatest, most loving, permanent home.
It can be scary if I’m on my own, so I’d be best with another doggy or human company during the day.
If I’m home alone for short periods, and I can wander in and out of the house, I’m fine.
I can jump fences though, so my owner says my new home would need high ones – just to be safe.
I am, and may always be, naturally shy meeting new people.
I’m great with older children but sometimes I find toddlers a little scary!
Turns out, fetch has been the gateway to me gaining my confidence!
So when a visitor comes, they play fetch with me – then they’re a friend. I’ll even lay on their lap!
The other thing I love is chasing, then KILLING squeaky toys. Finding the squeaker and chewing it up is the BEST!
I live with three other dogs – one is a senior. We all LOVE playing together. I’m cruisy and slot in, at the bottom of the pecking order.
Sometimes little dogs, the ones that rush at me, frighten me and I want to run away.
I also live with a cat and find HER scary too – eek!
My owner says, “Faye, you are very clever. One of the smartest dogs in our house. You could even learn agility!”
I have a really good nose on me too, she says, plus amazing recall and I’m a great listener.
So far, I’ve learnt sit, stay, touch and come.
I can also jump REALLY high and run super-fast!
Ok, so here’s the bad news. When it comes to food, I’m a GUTS. I’ll eat anything. I love chicken, cheese and raw hides – YUM!
I also put on weight easily, so I resist the temptation to surf the countertop!
My owner says, despite me never receiving love as a pup, I have SO much love to give.
I’m easygoing and quiet. I don’t bark unless there’s a visitor. Unlike the baby, I’m crate and potty-trained too!
So if you have lots of space, love in your heart, toys in your house – and you adore playing ‘go get it’ as much as me – we should talk!
