About Stella:
Stella is a medium-sized, female Heading Dog, aged 4 years old.
Description:Stella comes from a line of working dogs, both her parents (Sam & Flo) were active heading dogs on a Waipukurau Farm, so she certainly has the potential to become a working dog.
I live alone and am medically retired with chronic fatigue. Due to life circumstances, I’m going to have to move shortly and need to re-home Stella. I currently live in a rural setting where Stella is very happy. I have realised that I cannot realistically take Stella with me or continue to manage her high energy and high needs. She has been a wonderful companion & this is a heartbreaking decision for me; however, it is what is best for her. She would need a rural or semi-rural setting & the companionship of people who will care for her and provide her with the stimulation and lifestyle she needs.
She has developed reactive barking, which I have attempted to remedy, but do not have the energy or patience to manage, it is not her fault, it is due to her being a bit bored. She does not bark all the time, but barks at the birds and noisy cars, I do have a lot of birds around the section .I live next to a busy rural road, so she tends only to bark at noisy utes and boy racers . For anyone interested in meeting Stella or contacting me for more information, please understand that due to my Chronic Fatigue I don’t get going until early afternoon. I’m at home most of the time, though, and can be contacted in the afternoons or evenings, or emailed anytime.

A bit about Stella’s personality:
Stella is a happy, friendly, short-haired Border Collie heading dog; she has lovely markings (see photo). She loves people and other dogs, I have never seen her aggressive with people or dogs. She is dominant in her personality, I have never seen her submissive to other dogs, she is a bit hard headed at times and needs a bit of firm direction, however this is consistent with her breed. She has had basic obedience training and knows basic commands, generally she is very good with clear firm commands. She’s a bit of a three second wonder when it comes to greeting (gets very excited at seeing people), she does seek affection, but it’s on her terms. She can be a bit neurotic at times, however, it would be fair to say, that I have not met a Border Collie that isn’t, (I’ve had a few Border Collies prior to Stella). She did have several cats and a small dog as companions until some two and a half years ago and generally had a truce with the cats most of the time. Not sure how she would be with cats now though. She is used to stock and horses in the neighbouring paddocks next to the house, however she is not used to chickens though. She is food oriented and responds well to food treats (cat biscuits). She is crate trained and that is used for time out and sleep. She does not sleep at all during the day as there is just too much to do, she is really good in her crate at night, she stays quiet unless something disturbs her outside or needs to go for an urgent business trip. She likes sirens of any type and will howl when she hears them, she will initiate howl sessions with me if she has not heard a siren for a week or two, she can be a bit of a character and has a lot of personality, she is an intelligent dog consistent with her breed. She loves fetching a ball or a stick and playing with other toys, she does the highland fling with her rope toy, but I guess that’s consistent with her Scottish roots. For anyone interested in meeting Stella or contacting me for more information, please understand that due to my Chronic Fatigue I don’t get going until early afternoon. I’m at home most of the time though and can be contacted in the afternoon/evenings or emailed anytime.
