Awww Bruce 🫶12-year-old Bruce has retired from his life as a sheep dog and is now looking forward to the comforts of a soft bed, good company, and plenty of cuddles. He’s a sweet, friendly boy with an easy-going nature - affectionate yet independent, calm, and absolutely trouble-free.He’s great with other dogs and cats, and while he hasnt been tested with children or chickens, his laid-back temperament suggests he’d likely be fine.Bruce is located in Te Kauwhata🐾 If you’re looking for a loyal companion to share quiet moments and couch cuddles, Bruce would love to meet you 🐾Contact his owner https://retiredworkingdogs.org.nz/dogs-for-adoption/bruce-te-kauwhata/

A big thank you to everyone who donated to our Throw Us a Bone campaign in December. With your generosity we raised $4,090, which we’re incredibly grateful for - this can allow us to support many more dogs into foster with RWD.Thanks especially to Norsewear and Wool.Life for donating the raffle prizes and helping make the campaign a success. The raffle winner was Christine and her rescue dog Bob, who took home a pair of Norsewear socks and a dog bed from Wool.Life (made in NZ from recycled wool socks). Bob, who’s lost one eye, is already enjoying his very comfy new bed - complete with his name embroidered on it.Thanks again to everyone who supported the campaign. Your help means a more successful 2026 supporting our dogs!

Tweed is a 4 year old Border Collie. He is a pedigree and registered border collie with DogsNZ. Tweed is looking for a very specific home due to no fault of his own.Tweed was born, bred and raised by his owner but due to a learning deficit (which isn’t apparent day to day) was not suitable for stock work so he stayed on as a pet. He is faultlessly trained in the core skills to live is a pet - crate trained, toilet trained, not a barker and has his set of basic commands which are generally faultless after a lot of work - sit, down, wait, recall, get up (ute), get in (walk behind). Being a country dog his lead skills could do with some work but he is generally easy to walk on lead and loves people. While Tweed does get on with other dogs, he does find them overstimulating. He is being rehomed because the other dogs all pick on him, most likely due to his constant over arousal and movement around them when they are trying to chill (they are all eye dogs with off switches) He has an awesome off switch when NOT around them. Being constantly picked on is not fair to him nor would kenneling him be when he is used to being out all day. The ideal home for Tweed is as follows:- single dog, no cats.- older active person wanting an adventure companion or younger active person out there doing it. - must own your own home, preferably rural or semi, lifestyle block.- experienced with working breeds and the idiosyncrasies that are border collies.- he will not be suited to doggy daycare, dog parks or city living.- must be in Otago/Southland/Canterbury region so if things don’t work out his owner will be there to get him in a flash. To find out much more about Tweed and his owners contact details follow the link below:https://retiredworkingdogs.org.nz/dogs-for-adoption/tweed-outram/

Gorgeous Blue is a 6 year old Huntaway who has been his owners hard working yard dog for the last 5 years but unfortunately early last year he had a bout of vestibular disorder. Although he made a good recovery after time he’s not 100% and when he gets tired he seems to lose the ability to judge distance, jump etc. Blue gets left at home more and more because the days are too busy for him which really isn’t fair for him! Blues ideal home would be most likely being a women’s dog, on a lifestyle block/ place with a large amount of space for him to zoom around and bark, and someone that has plenty of time to take him on adventures with them.Contact Blues owner via the link belowhttps://retiredworkingdogs.org.nz/dogs-for-adoption/blue-whanganui/

Meet Skye, a gentle 9-year-old Huntaway mix who has been in foster with us but sadly, her current fosterer can no longer keep her, and she needs to find a new loving home (either foster or forever) in roughly two weeks.Skye has spent her life working hard and asking for very little in return, and now she truly deserves a calm, loving retirement home where she can finally just be. She’s a gentle, affectionate girl who finds happiness in quiet companionship, soft beds, and knowing her person is close by. In her golden years, Skye doesn’t need much, just patience, kindness, and a family willing to love her for exactly who she is. In return, she’ll offer unwavering loyalty, comfort, and a beautifully gentle presence that makes a house feel like home. She’s good with children and cats, and does okay with other dogs when introduced calmly. Why Skye needs a special home:Skye has urinary incontinence, which means she’ll need a patient, understanding home where accidents are okay, and someone who doesn’t mind a bit of extra laundry and loving care. She’s still fit and healthy otherwise and has so much love to give. She’s currently fostered in Levin with RWDNZ and ready to settle into a peaceful life with someone who will adore her.Interested in adopting or fostering Skye? Head to the link below for more information:https://retiredworkingdogs.org.nz/dogs-for-adoption/skye-levin-rwdnz-foster-dog/

Stunning girl Jamie is a 2 year old heading dog. She is kind and friendly - loves people. Bred by her owners and never experienced anything bad in her life, but has been a very timid pup from the beginning, and unfortunately, it never changed. Also her owner hasnt been able to spend enough time with her to make her a proper work dog and now she is just too nervous about most things so it has been decided shed be better off with a loving family who doesnt expect anything from her. She loves children. Ok with other dogs. She will work stock but can be very easily called off. She is well-bred to work, but, as said, too scared, so she doesnt really do much!Contact her owners via the link below:https://retiredworkingdogs.org.nz/dogs-for-adoption/jamie-waipukurau/
