Sweet Honey Bear is a Hunting/Pig Dog who will be 2 years old in November. She is a very sweet-natured wee girl. She was bred by her owners (who have both her parents and multiple relatives) to be a pig dog but is totally disinterested and would rather snuggle up by the fire. Shes super friendly, moderately high energy and would just make someone a fabulous best mate. Shes a handy size, probably only around 20kg, smart and athletic. Having lived in a pack her whole life, shes well socialised and is good with people and LOVES kids. Big, handsome boy Carlos is a 4 year old Handy dog. Hes a failed working dog who would much rather be a running buddy or go on tramping adventures. He is a soft soul who is shy for new people but once you know him he is fine. Unfortunately the farm isnt big enough for 2 dogs and because he doesnt work then he doesnt get out as much as he should. Lots of energy which needs to be satisfied. He is good around stock and likes to hang around whatever you are doing. He also likes collecting things which is cute.If you have a very active lifestyle and need a loyal buddy, please contact Carloss owner below:https://retiredworkingdogs.org.nz/dogs-for-adoption/carlos-masterton/

Storm, an 8 year old heading dog is going deaf so is unable to muster big paddocks anymore (he’s still keen but can’t hear once he’s 20+ metres away). He also had an unfortunate accident resulting in him losing an eye. He may be suited to a small lifestyle block. He’s a very loyal friendly dog who loves a pat.Contact his owners below:https://retiredworkingdogs.org.nz/dogs-for-adoption/storm-silverdale/

Flick is an 11 year old Heading dog with fireside ambitions!! She has had an incredible life and a successful career as a hill country mainstay under her belt but her body is slowing down now and although still in work at the moment her owners would like to see her re-homed for a well earned retirement before the cold winter months set in. She spends a lot of her day sleeping in the sun now and would easily transition to a slower lifestylealthough she would love to keep up some light work. She has amazing pet potential - cuddly, affectionate, eager to please. She has persisted in trying to convince her owners that she’s an ‘inside dog’ her entire 11 years.Flicks owners are hoping she can find a loving home that can give her the life of pampering she has always dreamed of, if you can help contact them via the link below: https://retiredworkingdogs.org.nz/dogs-for-adoption/flick-akaroa/

Grouch is a handsome 4 (ish) year old Border Collie X. He may be named Grouch however he is anything but!! He is a sweet, kind, energetic, loving boy who gets along with everyone! Unfortunately Grouch is going blind and cannot help with getting the cows in anymore as he has started to run into things and its just a matter of time before he hurts himself. He is spending less and less time out of his pen and he would now be better being in a permanent home environment with his people and other dog friends. Grouch would make an ideal family member as he has so much love to give, he is always happy and doesnt let his disability slow him down!Contact his owner via the link below:https://retiredworkingdogs.org.nz/dogs-for-adoption/grouch-opotiki/

Lovely Leaf is an absolute delight to have around!! Hes a very happy go lucky 5 year old heading dog but sheep and cattle just arent his passion. He will happily work small mobs in small paddocks but big mobs and paddocks arent his thing. He would be a great fit for either a small lifestyle farm or an active pet home. Leafs real love is playing with the hose 🥰🥰For more information and to contact his owner click on the link below:https://retiredworkingdogs.org.nz/dogs-for-adoption/leaf-pongaroa/

Handsome Herb is a Border Collie X, 2 years old. He shows some interest in stock but not enough to make the grade for his current owner hence the rehome. Herb is a lovely dog, loves people and would make a great family dog, hes good with cats, dogs, horses etc. A little timid at times. Are you an active family with a forever home for Herb? Lovely Ziggie is a young dog with potential that deserves more!! He is a Heading dog X, was left in the Taupo amnesty cages at about 6 months of age, hes now 2 and lives on a large lifestyle block. Ziggie has an exuberant friendly nature, fast, but a bit clumsy. Unfortunately he has a hard wired prey drive so his owners cats get targeted hence the rehome, chooks are behind a hot wire which he respects. He fixates on local rabbits and shows pointing. For more information on Ziggie please contact his owners via the link below:https://retiredworkingdogs.org.nz/dogs-for-adoption/ziggie-rotorua/

Kia ora community! So many of you have got involved in our work recently, sharing comments online, and we thank you for that. 🥰🐾But a few making negative comments and shaming farmers for rehoming their dogs needs to stop. We need farmers to feel safe to reach out rehome their dogs, creating a great outcome and a lovely home for any retired working dog, for any reason. The negativity is also pretty tough on our volunteers managing unkind comments while working hard to rehome. We LOVE the support we have and this community - we hope we can all continue to work constructively to see more RETIRED WORKING DOGS 😍Calendar dogs here to remind us of the amazing outcomes we can achieve together!Smoke Bound Kate Queen Skye Browse Bound Jake Pixie Jake Timmy Tink and Scruffy thank-you for your ongoing support.

Jock is an 8 year old Huntaway seeking a temporary, potentially permanent home as his owner is going overseas. Jock will need to go somewhere where he will get work, not a huge amount but enough to kind of knock the boredom out of him. Hes a friendly boy who loves a good cuddle. His owner describes Jock as an old soul and his best mate, and says it’s a really hard decision to let him go but knows that there could be an amazing home out there for him where he will be treated like a king. Tyke isnt just a sweet face, hes great for training sheep and will work well on a hobby farm or lifestyle block - has commands. His owner says this three-year-old is used to stock and children, and is just a @happy-go-lucky fella whod be better on a smaller scale operation.Find out more about Tyke: https://retiredworkingdogs.org.nz/dogs-for-adoption/tyke-blenheim-or-kaikoura/

Young Sarge needs a new home as his owner is leaving farm life 😕 but we know that a boy as good as this will find a new home here 🥰 His owner says hes a happy boy, loves a pat and gets on with everyone. In the pros column he is also toilet trained, used to stock and gets on well with other dogs. Given his breed - he does like to bark when excited - so might suit a lifestyle block?Find out more: https://retiredworkingdogs.org.nz/dogs-for-adoption/sarge-waipukurau/

Foster dogs looking for homes (North Island)

by phil | posted in: News | 0
Brick-in foster in Levin-Brick is a 2 year old male neutered heading dog. He didn’t make the cut as a working dog, but he is incredibly well trained and obedient. Brick would love to go to a home with other playful dogs, he has a beautiful nature and is very loveable. Will make a fantastic family member for an active family.
Jasper-Ohakune-3 year old male neutered collie. He is very little and cute, knows a few tricks and is verey obedient. This boy needs a job and has already been started for agility. Jasper has vitiligo (hair loses pigment) which is why he looks like a reverse panda. We think this makes him even cuter! For more information, please call Tania on 027 634 8456
Boy-Feilding-Approx 11 year old male heading dog. Will be available soon for adoption. This lovely older boy is more interested in being a couch potato than a working dog! Great nature, well mannered and obedient, good with stock and other dogs. Ready for an easy retirement but still loves to play.

We have a variety of wonderful dogs looking for their forever homes. All of these dogs are located in the lower-mid North Island, property checks and adoption fees apply.
Please contact us if you are interested in knowing more about one of our lovely dogs.

Dear sweet young Cassie is a Border Collie, a rescue dog. Her owners have tried to teach her to be a working dog but she's just too soft and friendly. She'd rather be by your side than working. She's a little needy now but will make a lovely pet and will flourish with lots of love and confidence building.
