Meet Skye, a gentle 9-year-old Huntaway mix who has been in foster with us but sadly, her current fosterer can no longer keep her, and she needs to find a new loving home (either foster or forever) in roughly two weeks.Skye has spent her life working hard and asking for very little in return, and now she truly deserves a calm, loving retirement home where she can finally just be. She’s a gentle, affectionate girl who finds happiness in quiet companionship, soft beds, and knowing her person is close by. In her golden years, Skye doesn’t need much, just patience, kindness, and a family willing to love her for exactly who she is. In return, she’ll offer unwavering loyalty, comfort, and a beautifully gentle presence that makes a house feel like home. She’s good with children and cats, and does okay with other dogs when introduced calmly. Why Skye needs a special home:Skye has urinary incontinence, which means she’ll need a patient, understanding home where accidents are okay, and someone who doesn’t mind a bit of extra laundry and loving care. She’s still fit and healthy otherwise and has so much love to give. She’s currently fostered in Levin with RWDNZ and ready to settle into a peaceful life with someone who will adore her.Interested in adopting or fostering Skye? Stunning girl Jamie is a 2 year old heading dog. She is kind and friendly - loves people. Bred by her owners and never experienced anything bad in her life, but has been a very timid pup from the beginning, and unfortunately, it never changed. Also her owner hasnt been able to spend enough time with her to make her a proper work dog and now she is just too nervous about most things so it has been decided shed be better off with a loving family who doesnt expect anything from her. She loves children. Ok with other dogs. She will work stock but can be very easily called off. She is well-bred to work, but, as said, too scared, so she doesnt really do much!Contact her owners via the link below:https://retiredworkingdogs.org.nz/dogs-for-adoption/jamie-waipukurau/

Meet Link 🤍A gentle, deeply affectionate boy looking for a calm, secure forever home.Once Link trusts you, he bonds hard, he’ll be your shadow, your comfort, your quiet companion. The world can still feel scary for him, so he needs a peaceful home, a very secure property, and access to his crate safe space at all times.Link loves:• Snacks (confidence-building gold!)• Soft toys (mostly to destroy them)• Zoomies in the yard over walks• Happy feet dinner dancesHe’s lived happily with other dogs, a cat, and older kids, but needs slow introductions and a patient, gentle adopter who understands nervous dogs.Fostered in Upper Hutt, local adopters preferred so we can take things at Link’s pace.Link isn’t a “plug and play” dog, but for the right person, he’ll be unshakably loyal and full of love.Could that be you?To learn more about Link and to enquire, please visit the link below.https://retiredworkingdogs.org.nz/dogs-for-adoption/link-wellington-rwdnz-foster-dog/

Jess is a 6-year-old Huntaway X Lab with a beautiful, gentle temperament. She is exceptionally good with children, chickens, horses, other dogs, and cats.Jess enjoys being out on the farm and loves the environment; however, due to her kind nature, she is better suited as a companion rather than a working dog, as she prefers to befriend the stock rather than move them. Her owners are seeking a loving home for Jess where she can be a cherished family pet, ideally with children or with someone who enjoys taking her for walks and spending time with her. She is a calm, affectionate, and truly lovely dog who thrives on companionship.Find out more via the link below:https://retiredworkingdogs.org.nz/dogs-for-adoption/jess-timaru-2/

Hatty is a 5 year old pure bred Huntaway, a beautiful gentle soul seeking the companionship of a farmer and farm life. She was a farm fail early in her life due to a limp (which later proved to be arthritis), she couldnt keep up with the pack, even though she tried hard as she loved the farm life and her days running with other dogs. From the farm Hatty was adopted into a pet home and was loved to bits by her devoted master who sadly, has since passed. Her mum has tried everything but Hatty remains unsettled and has been advised she needs to be rehomed. She would be best suited to a lifestyle block with a few stock and other dogs. Shes meant to be with a farmer. Shes a rounder-upper for sure! For more info on lovely Hatty contact her owner via the link below:https://retiredworkingdogs.org.nz/dogs-for-adoption/hatty-masterton/

Happy Henley is an affectionate and energetic 9 month old heading pup. She was training to be a working dog but unfortunately has hip dysplasia so needs to be rehomed as a *pet only*. She was showing great potential as a working dog but because she is so keen and excited to work her owners would prefer her to go to a home without stock as they dont want her condition to worsen.Henley loves attention and cuddles. She is always the first to greet you in the morning and loves going on daily walks/runs when her hip allows it. She is showing no signs of pain, just awkward hip movements. She has such a lovely personality and would make such a quiet, happy, bouncy pet for someone who can overlook her condition. She has been around cats, chickens, horses and kids since she was 3mo and has had no issues at all.To find out more contact her owners via the link below:https://retiredworkingdogs.org.nz/dogs-for-adoption/henley-lumsden/

🐾There has been a great response to Elles post and potential adoption pending.🐾Elle is a beautiful natured 9 year old Huntaway who sadly is starting to slow down and cant keep up with the farm dogs on big musters or jump onto the back of the side by side. She has a been a very clever farm dog for the last 8 years and done so much work. Looking for the retirement she deserves. She is easy going and well behaved. She would still be capable and love to do little bits of work on flat ground. Super natural with stock and will respond well to just saying her name and generally works out what to do. Also has whistle commands. She has an easy gentle bark and moves stock very calmly.Contact her owner below:https://retiredworkingdogs.org.nz/dogs-for-adoption/elle-taihape/

Missy is a beautiful and endearing ex-farm, heading dog, 4 years old. She has been with her owners for almost 2 years since leaving her farm, and with very heavy hearts that they are hoping to find her a new home. Missy loves long walks, cuddles by the fireplace, is extremely loyal, obedient, and enjoys learning new tricks. She is super enthusiastic and eager to please. She enjoys car rides and travelling new places, and doesn’t mind the occasional bath. The ideal home for Missy is with someone who does not have young children ( sadly she has on occasion been unpredictable around them), is able to give her plenty of attention and exercise, will love her and be able to provide a forever home. Her owners love her very dearly and are seeking the right home for her.Contact them below via the link for more information on lovely Missy:https://retiredworkingdogs.org.nz/dogs-for-adoption/missy-hastings/

Chopper is a lovely Huntaway with a big heart and an even bigger love for people. He’s a friendly, affectionate boy who thrives on attention and enjoys being part of the action. Whether it’s heading out for adventures, going for walks, or simply hanging out with his humans, he’s always keen to be involved. While Chopper was originally intended to be a working farm dog, he’s made it clear that his interests lie elsewhere. He has no desire to work stock and would be much happier as a companion dog. This makes him a great fit for an active home where he can enjoy outings, playtime, and plenty of love. His owners are looking for a caring home that can offer Chopper the time, companionship, and adventures he deserves. With the right home, Chopper will be a loyal, loving companion who brings plenty of joy and personality. If you think Chopper could be the perfect addition to your life, contact his owners via the link below:https://retiredworkingdogs.org.nz/dogs-for-adoption/chopper-martinborough-3/

Wow!! Meet stunning Kate, a 1-year-old Huntaway, whom her owner is unfortunately needing to re-home as she is not going to suit what is needed out of a Huntaway. Kate must go to a soft-handed female owner as she is a soft dog who responds best to calm handling. (She is afraid of males). While she isn’t going to make it as a cattle farm dog, she would be very well suited to someone on a lifestyle block or equally just as happy to have a chill pet life. She is not a high-energy dog, very happy to just chill. Kate would suit someone looking for a loyal companion with light or no work, and in the right home, she will thrive. For more information on this beautiful girl contact her owner via the link below:https://retiredworkingdogs.org.nz/dogs-for-adoption/kate-te-anau/

Why Skye needs a special home:
Skye has urinary incontinence, which means she’ll need a patient, understanding home where accidents are okay, and someone who doesn’t mind a bit of extra laundry and loving care. She’s still fit and healthy otherwise and has so much love to give.
