About Maeve:

Maeve is a medium-sized, female Heading Dog, aged 1 years old.

Description:

Hi, I’m Maeve and I’m a 1-year-old heading dog that LOVES tummy rubs!

As a young pup, I was showing strong potential as a working dog – the new up-and-comer on my farm – near the township of Darfield.

Sadly, at 4-months-old, I was in a car accident.

Rushed to the vets for urgent care, it was touch and go.

My owner, who works at the vet clinic, did everything she could to help me heal – spending thousands.

Even the vets didn’t think I’d make it – but I did!

They now call me, “the walking miracle.”

Today, I’m a happy, healthy, spritely wee girl – that loves to give kisses and cuddles and play fetch with pinecones.

And I have a touch of epilepsy.

I don’t fall to the ground or anything. It just means that sometimes, from my front legs upwards, I’ll get short periods of uncontrollable twitching.

To help stop these from happening, I take two Everet tablets a day. They cost $10 a week.

I’m full of life! I don’t let a little epilepsy slow me down!

While recovering from my ordeal, I stayed inside on my owner’s bed, where she kept an eye on me. I got quite accustomed to life’s luxuries.

So the other day, while we sat together – my head resting on my owner’s lap – we had a chat.

I told her I’d very much appreciate it if we could move her bed out to my kennel.

And if she could just remember to bring the big plush pillows out too, that’d be great.

My owner says after my learning all about inside life, she thinks that’s where I’d be happiest – on the couch, in a loving, laid-back pet home – with daily company.

We also live near a busy road, and sometimes, I get the urge to chase cars.

My owner always stops me through, phew! It’s always a worry for her.

She says she’ll be heartbroken to say goodbye but she really wants what’s best for ME.

She thinks pottering round a lifestyle block – with dog company – would suit me to a T!

I’m fully stockproof; I’m used to ponies and the chickens in our coop too.

I’m great with people – especially kids! I live with a 4-year-old and a 4-month-old.

If new people come to the house, I’ll just come over for a sniff.

Sometimes I’ll meet someone I click with right away – like the man that painted our farmhouse! I followed him everywhere and watched him paint.

I don’t trust cats. That evil stare? No thank you! I just take a wide birth around them.

On the farm, I follow the motorbike and wander round the back of stock with my big team of working dogs.

They’re all my friends. I just slot in and we rough and tumble together.

If one of them is eating a bone, I’d never try to take it from them. I wait quietly till they lose interest, then I come out to see what’s left.

I’m just happy being a part of things. I don’t really help much work-wise though!

I’m much more about my people.

If I spot my owner, even from 500 metres away – I’ll come bowling over for a pat!

I get so happy to see her, my butt goes all wiggly!

I haven’t spent much time swimming but if I have a vet appointment, I’ll go lay down in the water race and hopefully get all muddy, so I don’t have to go!

My owner says my new home would need to have good fencing.

I do tend to wander off at times. She worries I’ll be tempted to chase a car down the road!

But overall, she says, I’m a laid-back girl. A very loving, smoochy and loyal dog.

I’m full of beans but equally happy to lay in the sun and take it easy.

She wanted me to let you know that I’m fully vaccinated and up to date with flea and worm treatments. I’m just not microchipped.

I will be trialled in my new home and “welcomed back in a heartbeat” if I wasn’t the right fit.

My owner would love to keep in touch – and even babysit me, if, by chance, I find a wonderful home locally.

She’s happy to stay in contact for the first six months, for support, and to make sure I’m settling in well.

My medication dosage is working just perfectly for me, so she’s happy to help with any advice on that front.

She’s even made sure I have 120 pills to take with me, for my journey.

So if you like happy wiggly butts; have a big bed with plush pillows, space for me to run – and a heart full of love – I think we’d be perfect together!
