About Ray:

Ray is a medium-sized, male Huntaway Shar-Pei cross, aged 18-months-old.

Description:

Hi, I’m Ray. I’m an 18-month-old Huntaway Shar-Pei cross, living on a farm in Mangaweka.

Working sheep is not my thing. However, I have a secret talent…

I ADORE knawing on bones but I’ve recently ventured into other avenues.

Give me a log and I’ll turn it into kindling – like magic!

With me not being much of a worker and all, my farmer’s hoping to find me a loving new home as a PET.

Maybe somewhere I can utilise my skills in kindling manufacturing?

I’m a timid boy and very much a softie at heart.

Though, you wouldn’t always know it!

When new people visit my farm, I’ll bark, to alert my owner.

Being a BIG boy, with a DEEP bark, that can look a little scary!

I’ll only bark when unexercised though, or visitors come to my home.

Meeting new people, I’m always a little standoffish at first. I just need some time to build that trust.

My farmer thinks I’d be best on a lifestyle block or in a very active town home.

I’ll need decent exercise EVERY day!

Once I get past my initial shyness, I’m great with people.

I’m just excellent with my farmer’s children. I’ve grown up round them.

But, being an energetic big boy, it’s probably best I don’t live with the really tiny ones. I might knock them over.

A quieter home would be best for me – a place without many comings and goings.

And I must also let you know that I’m a velcro dog.

It’s true. Once we’ve made friends, wherever you go, that’s where I’ll be!

I’ll put my head on your leg, always wanting a pat on the head.

First thing in the morning, my farmer says, I’ll HOON off with the other working dogs – “happy as.”

I just slot in. I’m not a dominant kind of guy with the canines.

I’m great with males and females, so I’d be fine sharing my home with other doggies or being solo.

And I’m used to cats too!

Most importantly, I need a place with quality human company.

If I’m feeling lonely, I’ll let you know it.

Let me explain…

Just the other day, I was waiting on the quad to start work.

My farmer had gone inside to take a nap and he overslept.

I got bored, so I came in, grabbed his gumboots and took them outside.

When he woke up, he found me, sitting with his half-chewed boots, in the paddock.

Sadly, he wasn’t too keen on the improved air circulation in his footwear!

Seriously though, I’m a fun guy to have round the place.

I’ve had all the basic training and I know how to walk on leash.

I LOVE swimming. I’ll take myself off to the river or the trough for a dip.

Oh, and I must let you know that I’m not fixed or currently registered.

My farmer’s sad to say goodbye. He’s hoping to find me a great new place in the next couple of weeks.

So if you’re looking for a new best mate – that loves swimming, producing kindling and has amazing balancing skills on a quad bike – I could be the guy for you!
